Don't use that sim card that we got in the mail it blew up my phone

[That's it. That's his warning. He didn't have high expectations for their 'compensation' but he hadn't considered it's be actively dangerous.

Despite having just had his phone explode, though, and his hands wrapped up in bandages, he's still going to be working at the teahouse the next day. And the day after, smiling through the unbearable pain. He can't just close the place, but also he can't leave it unsupervised.]

[It's evening when he reviews the sim card that came in the mail, unmarked but on the date that they would have expected their compensation from AVA. Along with new missions, Yuya's sure they're related. But it isn't until now that he looks at it carefully, and bites the bullet to see what AVA has given them.


And that's why he's in the hospital lobby, holding back tears as his hands hang covered in fresh burn marks and blood, being directed to the next open office in order to have his hands tended to. It's just the kind of thing a medical student can help with, for education.]

Okay. [He can't help with twitch as the burns are pressed on, hissing through his teeth, but he does his best to stay still. He's never been in so much pain before. Is it going to scar...?]

You're doing great. I need to ask you another question.

When was the last time you ate?

[ Nier was gonna prescribe some medication for the pain but it would help to know if Yuya's hungry or not. ]

Are you hungry?

[hippocarnival]

Today. [He scrunches his face trying to focus.] For dinner. I'm not hungry.

[silentends]

That's good. I'm going to give you some medication in a moment.

[ Nier grabs a glass of water from the shelves and picks out some painkillers from there as well. He hands them over to Yuya. ]

Try to swallow one.

[Trying to grab a flat of water when his hands are stiff from burns and pain ends up... just about impossible. He only taps the glass, looking between it and the pills resting on the palm of his other hand.

Ultimately he decides he stands a better chance swallowing them dry, and brings his hand to his mouth to toss them in. This isn't painless either, and he cringes when his palm accidentally touches his mouth.]

[silentends]

You did great, Yuya.

[ Ouch. It's really that bad. A look of increasing worry spreads across Nier's face. ]

We're almost done. I just need to bandage up your wounds so you won't get an infection.

Is there someone at home who can look after you?

[hippocarnival]

[It's really bad and you're not supposed to dry swallow pills, but he forces them down after a few attempts.]

No--[His voice cracks as he gets them down his throat. He forces up a smile.] It's okay! I can take care of it.

[silentends]

Don't push yourself too hard. It's still better if you rest here more.

[WORRY. That doesn't look reassuring but Yuya's strong. Nier can respect that. ]

Come with me over to the next room. We've got a bed for you.

[ the next room isn't too far away. Nier will help Yuya walk there if he's struggling with it. ]

A bed? [His expression slips a little in confusion. He doesn't have any trouble standing or walking, since the burns are only one his hands. He holds them out limply to follow Nier to the next room where he just assumes is where he'll be bandaged and whatever else needs to be done to his hands.]

[silentends]

Yeah, take a seat on the bed. Just relax a bit.

[ Nier will get some bandages ready in the meantime. ]

Can I see your hands again?

[hippocarnival]

[Yuya sits down on the edge of the bed and holds his hands out, palms facing up.]

[silentends]

Thanks.

[ Nier puts some ointment on Yuya's hands and wraps them with bandages. The whole processes doesn't even take more than a minute and the pain shouldn't get worse. ]

You downed those pills so quickly earlier without drinking any water. I've got some straws you could use? That way you can swallow without holding the cup.

[ He sets a cup of water to the side with a straw next to it.]

[Yuya holds still as his hands are wrapped, glancing between the bandaging and around the room.]

Huh--[He looks at the cup, blinking at it.] It's--okay, I already swallowed them.

[silentends]

You might get an upset stomach unless you have something with it.

[ Nier relaxes his expression more he thinks that Yuya will be okay. His wounds are wrapped up and all he needs is rest now. ]

Take the next few days off and make sure you get enough sleep, Yuya.

[hippocarnival]

Sure. [Yuya slides off the bed, ready to abandon the water entirely to leave the hospital. He will not take the next few days off, but he's not going to admit that.] Thanks, Nier.

[silentends]

You're always welcome, Yuya. I think you still need to check out before you leave. It won't take long.

[ gross. He knows, it's not fun. They're running on a system and he needs to follow the rules. ]

Take care on your way home.

I will. [He knows at least he needs to check out, and expect the bill later. Making it home, hopefully, can't be less safe than having a phone explode on you.

He'd normally wave but he's not inclined to move his hands much right now. So he just... shuffles out the door.]
