[There's always a lot to prepare in the morning, so by 6 AM Yuya is there, in the back hallway between the kitchen and the front. The door to the kitchen is propped open, since he knows the food delivery should be here soon. He just needs to get his obi tied and twisted around (it'll be a little sloppy, but it always is trying to do this by himself). Which leaves the kitchen completely unmonitored, and maybe it's too trusting but he hasn't had a problem before...]

[Lunch Break | Open]

Man the fort, Abby, I'm taking a break! [Yuya calls from across the counter, giving her a gentle push with her cart to the couple waiting before he grabs his phone and a muffin and squeezes around the counter. He's in a hurry to the door, but his attention is actually back on making sure Abby has things handled--so he doesn't even notice when he walks through the doorway and promptly collides with someone.] Oof!

[Closing | Open]

[He's made a promise (or two) over the network, so when the doors close and the sign is flipped around, he lets Abby leave early to handle the clean up alone.

He ties back his sleeves and starts with wiping tables and pulling up chairs, so that he can watch out the window to see if anyone is coming. If it seems like someone is getting close to the door he stops, leaning over and pressing his forehead against the glass to watch them.]

[ Nier quickly backs off and puts some distance between them. ]

Is everything alright? You look like you're in a hurry. I didn't mean to get in your way.

[ He's speaking with a relatively quiet but calm voice .]

I'm okay! So sorry, but welcome to the teahouse.. [He sidesteps to give Nier room, assuming he's planning to go into the teahouse, and flashes a friendly customer service smile.]

There's no need for you to say sorry. It's fine.

[ Nier makes a dismissive gesture. ]

Thanks for the warm welcome. I was just hoping to get some tea.

Well, we do heave plenty of that! [Yuya makes a gesture for him to come in, holding the door open with his back. Have you been to the teahouse before? If you go to the counter, Abby will be happy to give you a table.

That's great.

[ He hasn't been to the teahouse before. Nier wearing a sweater with the hood on all the way. It makes for good shade and that's the only thing that matters.]

Uhm, I don't usually come here so I'll let you pick out my order.

Is that okay? Just one drink.

You mean a recommendation? Our most popular is matcha with cake. But you can order just matcha as well if you're not hungry.

In that case, matcha is fine. I ate a lot of cake earlier this week.

[ He makes a shy smile. ]

It was my birthday the other day. Do you like parties?

Um... I guess I do. [His voice wavers a little in confusion, not sure where Nier is leading this conversation.] Happy belated birthday. How old are you?

[He glances sideways, just to make sure they're not blocking anyone in the doorway. Nobody seems to be coming up to the teahouse behind Nier, at least.]

Twenty-one years old as of last week.

[ He's just an awkward guy who's trying to be friendly by making small talk. ]

I still have some left over balloons and party hats that went unused. Do you accept donations? I'll give them to you for free.

Thanks, but I don't know what we would do with them. [He scratches his cheek.] Maybe there's someone you know with a birthday happening soon. That would be the best place for them to go, right?

Yeah, you've got a point. I figured you'd have lots of customers and you might have more use for it.

Guess not. [ The next person with a birthday is getting those bizzaro shaped animal balloons that look like they were made by a clown. ]

[They do have a lot of people celebrating birthdays here, but they don't tend to pick the teahouse because they want party hats or balloons.]

I'm sixteen. [And supposed to be taking his break, but he doesn't move. He shouldn't turn away an incoming customer by being rude. They need the business.]

Oh, I see. You're the same age as my little sister Niko.

[ His eyes suddenly light up with intrest. ]

That's neat. I wonder if you're already friends with her.

Niko... I think she's a customer sometimes? [Which is even more distant than acquaintances. Also, lots of people in the city are customers sometimes.]

I see. It's good if she's a customer here because she can meet friendly people like you.

[ Yuya is very nice and he feels the need to point that out. ]

What was your name again? I'm Nier.

I'm Yuya. [He bows his head politely, because he is still technically representing the teahouse right now.] Nice to meet you.

Likewise, Yuu. [ Ah, Nier always struggles with saying names for the first time. It sounds more like Nier has abbreviated Yuya's name even though it's already kind of short, to begin with. ]

Do you mind if I call you that? I'm kind of bad with names.

That's--[Not his name. He does mind, but Nier is still ultimately a customer and he can't get contentious with a customer, right?]

Fine. Call me whatever you like.

Thanks. Everyone has something they're weak at and for me it's names.

[ He frowns and looks slightly apologetic. ]

Damn, it wasn't Yoyo. Was it Yuya or Yogo? [ He was so close that time. Sorry, Yuya. ]

[He's so close.] It's Yuya! My name is Yuya.

Yuya? Okay, it's Yuya.

[ thankfully he's learned Yuya's name properly so he shouldn't have too much trouble in the future. ]

I may have tongue-tied myself on that one. Was that one right?

You've got it! [He laughs.] It's Yuya.

Glad we got that straightened out.

[ Nier laughs too because he knows he can be a bit clumsy. ]

Just let me know when I make another mistake like that. I'm going to do my best to remember.
